This is a pictorial on how to install a 212 Hamilton Stomp grate.
This is just my opinion on how to do it. Do not try this at home unless you are a professional.

Start by lubing up the 4 studs with the nuts installed that holds the grate to the boat. Not doing this will cause major headaches because all the studs, nuts, bolts etc are stainless. Stainless fitting will gall very easily. WD-40 works fine.
Use a 17mm socket to take the nuts off.
This is what it looks like once the old grate is out. You might have to use a pry
bar to take out the old grate. You might put a jack under the old grate so it won't fall far. Don't let the grate fall on you.

Put lube on the threads and install and tighten the 4 nuts. The new grate will hang like this.
Put a jack under the lower part of the grate and jack it up so it is flush with the bottom of the boat.

It should look like this once you have it jacked into place.

Find the centerline of your boat. Mark that spot. The rods that run through your swim deck need to be verticle as possible, so try to mark the centerline spot so that it is directly above the holes that the rods insert into, in the stomp grate.
The rods will be 14 3/4 apart. From your centerline mark, mark a spot 7 3/8 inches from your centerline on both sides of the centerline mark. If you have done this correctly, when you measure between the marks, it will equal 14 3/4.

Once you have those 2 spots. Drill a 9/16 hole in each spot. This is where your 2 rods will extend from the Stomp grate through the swim deck.

Put the Plastic rub block so that the big hole aligns with the 9/16 hole you just drilled. Center punch 2 spots where the little holes align. Notice how the block is sitting. This will be your right block.

Drill a 17/64 hole where each little hole that you just centerline punch is marked.

Put 2 of the longer 1/4 inch bolts into the holes after you have countersunk the little holes. This keeps the bolt tops flush in the swim deck.

Put the rub blocks onto the 2 bolts that go through the swim deck. Notice how the left and right blocks are installed with the countersunk part of the block facing toward the aft.
Install the springs onto the rods. Put the loop to the unbent side.

Once you have shoved the rod up through the swim deck. Put the loop onto the last 1/4 inch bolt. Add a washer and nut (with lube) and tighten. Do the same for the other side.

Once the 90* angle of the rod is installed into the stomp grate hole. Install the flat washers onto the rod end. Put the other end of the spring into the hole that is drilled into the rod. Pre-tension or Pull down about 2 - 2 1/2 inches on the spring and bend the spring end up so that it can't pull through the hole. I put a few bends into the spring. Be careful of sharp ends.

This is what you should see now. Measure up from the swim deck about 6-7 inches and cut each rod the same length. Put the push bar onto the rods and tighten the set screws. I recommend putting a flat spot on the bar where the set screw hits. I also recommend lock tite small screw formula to lock the set screws into place.

This should be the final product installed.

Side view. Notice how the rods are verticle.
